Allerton Waste Recovery Park

The Allerton Waste Recovery treatment facility deals with ‘black bag. waste from homes across York and North Yorkshire. It deals with general waste that is not recycled directly – ie the rubbish we put in the green/black bins. Previously, this waste went to landfill, but is now further processed in tbe plant to extract additional recyclable material. The residue is incinerated and the heat used to generate electricity, which is fed into the national grid.

The facility offers interesting free visits and educational sessions – please see here.
