Historical Society

Ampleforth and District Historical Society was founded in 1975 to stimulate interest in and around Ampleforth in Historical subjects in the widest sense, by means of :

  • talks and discussions
  • visits to sites of interest
  • and by involving interested members in local historical research

The Society meets in Ampleforth Village Hall at 7-30pm – dates are available from John and Jeanette Green on 01439 788 824

The entrance fee is £3 including refreshments

Programme for 2018

Tuesday 13th March – AGM followed by (film) Heritage Steam Railway footage

Wednesday 16th May – Guided tour of Coxwold Church by Phil Thomas (£6 charge) – meet at the church at 6-15pm

Tuesday 10th July – Dr Tania Dickinson will give a talk on The Staffordshire Hoard and the results of the research programme 2009-2017

Tuesday 9th October – Anthony Hughes from Archives North Yorkshire (Northallerton) brings the records Office to Ampleforth

Tuesday 13th November – Ros Batchelor, trustee of the Quaker tapestry, will give a presentation on the Quakers of York and Ampleforth (Shallowdale)
